Hello BWMS/BWIS Staff,

As we move closer to "the move" over Summer Break, the Technology Department wanted to provide more information on saving and backing up your current computer files.

Starting 05/17/2022, Dave will start the process of going around to each staff computer in your current building and pulling a migration file from them. This file is a full backup of your computer as is, and will be used to restore the computer when it is moved to your new building.

For example, if a migration file for your computer is created on 05/26/2022; when you go to first use your computer at your new building, it'll have all the files as they were on 05/26/2022.

These migration files make it easy for us to make sure the bulk of your files transfer over, but it's also very important that you still save all of your files in either Google Drive or to the building server. The reason being that since migration files will be collected between 05/17/2022 and 05/27/2022, there are bound to be updates to your files in that timeframe. Therefore, backing your files up in Google Drive or to the building server create will create file redundancy, and also make sure you have access to the newest version of your file(s).

Thank you again for your patience and understanding as we gear up for the big move over Summer break.

Q:  When you say to 'save files to the building server' is that the C drive? I just want to make sure before I move my files from the 'Documents' folder.

A:  The C: Drive is the local computer. The building server is the H: Drive, which can be found by opening the file explorer, and pressing "This PC". Under Network Locations, you should see something like "johndoe (\\ISSERVER\users\) (H:)". That is where you would want to save your files.
